Angela Choc, widow of a man who was killed at one of HudBay’s mines in El Estor, brought a lawsuit against HudBay in Ontario, Canada on December 1. That she had to file the lawsuit in a Canadian court – as opposed to a Guatemalan court – speaks volumes about how elusive justice is for indigenous Guatemalans. On August 19, 2009, the Seattle-based nonprofit Jolkona Foundation held a live broadcast featuring Roots and Wings International. The purpose of the live event was to raise funds for RWI’s Computer Literacy for Kids project ($60 per year per student for one year).
